Construction is a necessity to create attractive and sustainable cities. However, the transport of goods and personnel to construction sites disturbs residents, businesses and road users. The CIVIC project is focused on how can we mitigate the negative impact through dialog, logistics optimization and smart governance?
The growth of urban populations will generate a need to further develop cities, which will lead to a significant increase in construction work in cities. Because of the change from building in greenfield areas to brownfield areas, more people will experience the accompanying nuisances the increase of construction work brings.
More European cities see construction logistics as part of urban freight policies, but also a lot of European cities do not have any initiatives yet. However, the awareness to deal with urban construction logistics is growing. These are the conclusions of the latest SUCCESS-report on the experience and maturity of 12 European cities in construction logistics.

On April 24 – 26 representatives from Austria, Belgium, The Netherlands and Sweden met in Vienna for a CIVIC project meeting and site visit. During the two days the participants discussed the progression of the project’s different work packages and visited the demonstration site Seestadt Aspern in Vienna. The CIVIC project is almost half way.

The Norwegian Institute of Transport Economics performed a study of Norwegian crafts -and service companies (C&S) that have adopted electric utility vehicles (EUVs) and/or mobile management applications. The results show that MAs largely affects the travel patterns in the enterprises, but the potential to reduce the amount of travel is uncertain.
