ONOMOTION, a Berlin-based company that specializes in electric cargo bikes, and Mercedes-Benz Vans are revolutionizing last-mile logistics efficiency by integrating cargo bikes with eSprinter. Collaboratively, ONOMOTION and Mercedes-Benz Vans have enhanced the technology demonstrator SUSTAINEER, built on the foundation of the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter.
Through the partnership between the SUSTAINEER and the e-cargo bike ONO, Mercedes-Benz Vans and ONOMOTION introduce a streamlined logistics solution for local, emissions-free delivery over the last mile. The eSprinter, outfitted with this innovative technology, acts as a mobile micro-hub, facilitating the transfer and exchange of pre-packed containers between ONOMOTION and ONO e-cargo bikes while in motion. This seamless loading and unloading process enables electric vans and e-cargo bikes to transport goods concurrently, facilitating dynamic meeting points and significantly reducing delivery times. Moreover, this system contributes to mitigating local CO2 emissions from parcel transportation.
The logistics strategy leverages the capabilities of both electric vehicles to enhance efficiency. At the logistics center, the eSprinter is loaded with containers destined for the cargo bike and large or heavy parcels designated for the delivery route. With a loading capacity of two cubic meters and a payload capacity of up to 200 kilograms, ONOMOTION’s container provides an optimal solution for handling high volumes of parcels. These containers are seamlessly loaded onto the SUSTAINEER using the vehicle’s integrated hydraulic lifting arm. By combining the cargo bike and the eSprinter, parcels of varying sizes and structures can be delivered simultaneously, ensuring no time is lost in the process.
